Care for the Environment

We are following the following method to implement the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle and do our part in protecting the environment. Save money, while contributing to a better Planet Earth! What else could make more sense to a business?

  • Paper: Do not print unnecessarily, read documents on the laptop. Instead of buying printed books, buy e-books or subscribe to online book service such as http://safari.oreilly.com .
  • Reuse unused sides of used papers for writing, printing, incoming faxes, reuse envelopes etc
  • Electricity: Turn off lights, airconditioners, servers and monitors while not in use. Reduce the lighting where it is not needed (eg: Storage areas). Use laptops instead of workstations or desktops ( laptops consume about 50W vs 200-600W for a workstation, laptops can be put to sleep mode quickly, while workstations can't)
  • Servers that need to run 24-hours(eg: Mail, DNS), but are not actively used contribute to distributed computing projects
  • Use fewer servers with virtual machine software to cut down the total electricity consumption.
  • Cut down unnecessary travel. Combine two or more appointments in one trip. It makes sense, since we can save time too. Use remote access to servers and cluster for problem solving and administrative work.
  • Reduce the use of chemicals, water.
  • Participate in the recycling programs in the neighbourhood
  • Dispose electronic waste (eg: components, batteries) safely and as per proper procedures.
  • Encourage staff to follow 3Rs at their home
  • Minimise usage of plastics and hard to recycle parts.
  • More tips on recycling:

  • Intel's Linux Powertop site provides information on reducing power usage, tips, and tricks for Intel-based computers running Linux.
  • As a first step, Intel is releasing PowerTOP, a tool that helps you find what software is using the most power. By fixing (or closing) these applications or processes, you can immediately see the power savings in the tool.
  • Recycled paper takes about 60% less energy and water to make than new paper.
